Here’s a look at our current New York City bedroom. Once in a while it actually looks like this…normally there are some clothes strewn about and I really only make my bed when I wash the sheets, or am having guests over…or for these pics (you’re welcome.) As you can see, I tend to lean towards a neutral color pallet in my home and always end up coming back to white bedding. I love light furniture and decor, but we’ve definitely noticed that is becoming trickier now that we have a baby on board…thank goodness for washable fabrics + slipcovered furniture! I pretreated and washed my couches’ slipcovers the other day and my living room feels like (cue Aladdin) a whole new world, a dazzling place I never knew!
I love classic, weathered-European inspired style with modern touches- linen fabrics, reclaimed wood, tufted furniture, classic lines and architecture. My dream house would basically be a Restoration Hardware (much to Tim’s dismay, I drag him into them everywhere we go…I would literally live in one). We’ve invested in a few RH pieces that we know we’ll keep for a long time, but Tim and I have moved once a year since graduating from college, including two cross-country moves in the past three years…so needless to say we haven’t purchased our “forever furniture” yet. We’ve lived in so many different apartments and moving so often hasn’t helped keep all of our furniture in tip-top shape, so I usually try to find inexpensive, classic pieces that will work in multiple settings. IKEA is a natural go-to for us for basics, the price tag is nice, and the pieces are easily moved because they all come apart. I also do a lot of home buying online at retailers like Crate + Barrel, West Elm, Pottery Barn, Wayfair and Amazon but my favorite is hunting for pieces at Homegoods…literally heaven on earth, am I right ladies?! When I walk into a standalone Homegoods, I get anxiety because I’m so excited, there is never a cart big enough, and I can never seem to get a single trip to last less than 2 hours. Right now though, we have no room left to add anything to our place, all available storage and space is reserved for more baby toys and clothes (#cityliving at it’s finest), it’s so crazy how fast their stuff multiplies! I’ll have to wait till our next move to get back in the hunt.
We don’t know how long we’ll be in our current place for, but right now we’re enjoying our bedroom (aside from our TV- don’t get Tim started), and Wyatt seems to like it too because he wakes up at 5:45 am to come snuggle with us in here just about every morning! If he keeps it up, we’ll definitely have to get the King bed I’ve been asking for… 🙂
