Alright so I’m finally doing a New Year’s post. I had high hopes of getting a ton of work done while we were at our parents’ houses in Boston over Christmas and on vacation in Aruba, but that just didn’t happen. I did more Hallmark movie watching and pool lounging than blogging. So now it’s two weeks into the new year and I’m sure plenty of people have already stopped their resolution to go to the gym or cut out sugar. I’m not really big on resolutions, I feel like I’m constantly re-starting a diet or a workout plan, or telling myself this is the last time I’m going to leave a load of clean laundry unfolded for days. So instead of resolutions, I’m going to call them goals, and hopefully by the end of 2018 I can look back and feel like I accomplished something without feeling like I failed for skipping the gym all week…or month. I’m only writing three so I can hopefully hold myself accountable for them instead of rattling off a million things I want to work on.
- Get a better hold on blog planning. As a novice blogger, I definitely threw myself in without having a solid long-term plan. As a former teacher, my planner was my life, I was obsessed with it and it helped me feel organized and successful. For some reason with blogging, I felt like I needed to do all my organizing on apps and my computer. Instead of doing what I knew worked for me, (a hard copy agenda and pencil) I struggled through keeping my ideas, timelines, and tasks organized. I tried a million apps, but nothing compared to a good ‘ol pencil and paper for brainstorms and scheduling. So at the end of 2017 I marched into Anthropologie and bought myself the prettiest leather planner. Obviously functionality is key here, and it has the perfect layout and enough space for notes & ideas and long-term planning. So far, I feel more in control and excited instead of lost and anxious about my blogging timeline. I also got this matching notebook for more brainstorming.
- Get Hydrated. So this one is kind of like an every-moment resolution and I feel like it’s a constant battle for me, but I’m putting it on here. It’s no secret that keeping yourself hydrated has tons of great side-effects and is super important for your overall health. And I need to make it a priority with the amount of coffee I drink (one sip to 4+ cups…does anyone else regularly find their full cup of coffee at the end of the day when things just got too busy?). My husband always makes fun of me because I’m constantly buying new water bottles, yes even a smart one that’s like a FitBit for tracking your water consumption. For some reason I think that’s the key to my dehydration, that I haven’t found the perfect one…we all know that’s not true, but if you have found the holy grail of water bottles comment below or send me an email! We’re big on seltzer in this house and that’s probably where most of my hydration comes from, but THIS IS THE YEAR I’m going to make a conscious effort to just DRINK MORE WATER! This one’s cheating because I can’t really look back at the year and decide if I made progress towards this goal, but I’m writing it anyways. (My most recent water bottles: BKR, Contigo– Wyatt loves drinking out of this straw one on his own, they also have kid’s size.)
- Get control of my closet. I buy way too many clothes, (according to my husband) and I don’t clean out my closet enough. Luckily, we’ve moved once a year for the past 10 years, so that helps me purge my closet. I’m very good at not holding onto junk (clutter is my enemy), but I want to have a more organized system of cleaning out my clothes. I usually just donate stuff to Salvation Army, go to a local consignment shop, and fill bags to send to ThredUp. It’s always an afterthought, and I’m probably wasting a lot of potential money doing it. I just started listing some items on Poshmark, an online shop to buy and sell clothes…you can shop my closet here! I plan on listing a few items at a time (feels more manageable than all at once), and hopefully they can find another fashionable home! My husband likes the one in – one out strategy, (well actually, none in – one out) where if I buy something I have to sell something, which I think feels manageable. Hopefully gone are the days of running out of hangers!
Happy 2018, make it a great year!
