We celebrated Tim’s first Father’s Day weekend in the Hamptons. The actual day was pretty low-key, we headed out to the beach, picked up some cookies at Levain in Wainscott, and headed out of town. When we got back to New York we popped up to our apartment’s rooftop pool for a dip before having a pizza night in (super healthy day).
It’s been really fun to figure out parenting together this year. We’ve been very lucky Wyatt is both amazing (not partial or anything) and healthy! And although we’ve had quite the busy first nine months with lots of travel and a cross-country move, we’ve really had fun as we figure out how to parent.
I knew Tim was going to be a great father from early on, (he read this and would like me to emphasize this more so…) I knew Tim was going to be a great father from early on, but one of my favorite things about watching him be a dad is how every day he seems to have more fun with Wyatt than he did the day before. Maybe it’s that as Wyatt gets older he can do more or communicate differently, but seeing Tim love being a dad more and more each day really gets me. He’s constantly amazed by Wyatt’s new tricks and laughs at pretty much everything that he does. When Wyatt figured out that he could chew things with his new front teeth, he used to take a single Cheerio and hold it at the front of his mouth as his mashed it up with his four little chompers, and literally with every Cheerio Tim would laugh hysterically and tell me to “watch this!” (Like I haven’t seen him eat a million Cheerios because I don’t watch him all day, every day or anything.)
With Wyatt being our first child, we didn’t know what to expect out of parenthood. Lots of nights in bed we end up talking about how we miss Wyatt while he’s sleeping (now that he is sleeping), Tim usually pulls open the Nest to peek on him (more often than not he’s migrated to the bottom of the crib or turned 180 degrees around, snuggling his puppy), and sometimes we find ourselves scrolling through pics of him…isn’t it weird to miss someone who’s literally in the next room?! Occasionally, Tim has to go into look at him in person while he’s sleeping, (against my will, but I get it, he doesn’t get to see Wyatt all day like I do) so he pops into his room while I keep my fingers crossed that Wyatt doesn’t wake up, but at the same time love that Tim adores his boy so much. We’ve had our moments and long sleepless nights, (Wyatt is a party animal) but parenthood is by far our best adventure yet! Happy first Father’s Day to our favorite, Wyatt and I are so lucky!
