The weather has finally turned and it finally feels like fall in New York! As much as I love summer, we’ve been anxiously waiting to feel the crisp fall air, walk the leaf lined streets, and the regain the ability to wear layers. I love the change of seasons, it gives me structure to my year and a new excitement every few months. I really only noticed how much I actually loved the change of seasons when we moved to San Francisco and the weather stays very similar season to season. My months ran together, holidays would sneak up on me, and the passage of time was a little more puzzling. I could do with a little less of the winter months, but I’m glad to be back in a place that has four very distinct seasons.
Fall is absolutely one of my favorite seasons, being a former teacher, the fall was always a super busy time with the start of the new school year, so much excitement, and a little (lot of) anxiety. Now, autumn is a little less stressful, but the excitement is still there. Fall also signifies the start of the holiday season for me, I start celebrating Christmas as early as possible every year…like as far as I’m concerned it’s officially Christmastime as soon as Halloween is over. Let’s get this party started. So below are my top bucket list items for our family this fall in no particular order. Some we’ve already been able to checkoff, some we’re still working on…what’s on your bucket list this fall?
Go apple picking
Eat fresh cider donuts- our hometown favorites are from this farm
Make our Halloween costumes
Make pumpkin bread- favorite recipe
Go to a pumpkin patch
Make mulled wine or spiked apple cider
Go to a farm or harvest festival with a hay ride, corn maze, or petting zoo
Run a road race
Carve a pumpkin + let Wyatt play with the guts for some sensory fun!
Watch Hocus Pocus, duh.
Have a picnic in the park on a crisp, sunny day
Roast pumpkin seeds
Drink pumpkin spice coffee, burn fall candles, and watch Hallmark Christmas movies (ASAP and as often as possible…I have an obsession)
Leaf peep on a fall foliage drive
Take our family Christmas card photo
