Wyatt is turning ONE (omg) a few days after it officially becomes fall next week, which means one thing…new fall clothes! During the first year of life, babies change clothes sizes every few months, which happened to coincide very nicely with the seasonal change for Wyatt, I’ve more or less had to build him up a new wardrobe four times already. Luckily, I love shopping for clothes and online shopping makes it incredibly easy! One of my favorite brands to begin building Wyatt’s wardrobe with is Carter’s. They have quality clothing, affordable styles, wear-now options and a lot of opportunity to mix and match with their great pairing sets! So many of our staple pieces every season are by Carter’s. ALSO, JCPenney is having a Carter’s September Baby Sale through September 24th, with select styles at over 50% off! We stocked up on some of the cutest new pieces that I’m sharing below!
Check Existing Wardrobe
I assess our current clothing situation. Are there pieces I can carry into the next few months that are both seasonally appropriate and will still fit him? I find that pieces that are just a top or bottom he is more likely to get additional use of out, whereas he tends to grow out of onesie or bodysuit options more quickly because of his height. This all depends on your baby’s build. Accessories you can also usually get at least a few seasons’ of wear out of. I set the items that he’ll be able to continue to wear in the next season(s) aside and go through the following categories to fill out his wardrobe.
Play Clothes
Now that Wyatt is on the move, play clothes are even more important than ever. At gym class, I don’t want him trying to practice his new crawling, walking and climbing skills in more restrictive clothes like jeans…he’s gotta be in his activewear! Carter’s has a great selection of play-sets that let my little guy move and groove with ease! For people that don’t like shopping- this is where Carter’s really does the work for you, their sets take the guesswork out of coordinating outfits, they’re ready-to-wear as is! This french terry set is one of our favorites! It’s so perfect for lounging around the house and is super snuggly for the fall. This set is THE CUTEST for girls- it comes in so many adorable options. These sets also are easy to mix and match with other sets or pieces in your wardrobe. Depending on the season, I focus on pants or shorts, and long sleeve or short sleeve. When Wyatt was an infant we also used a lot of plain white onesies to go under all of his clothes, so I stocked up on those as well during the first 9 months.
Dress Clothes
More often than not, if Wyatt is out and about he isn’t dressed in sweats. He likes to rock jeans and chinos and a button down if he’s feeling fancy. I find that girls have a few more options when it comes to their clothing styles- dresses, skirts, basically any trendy style I am wearing in a mini form (just don’t get me started), but that doesn’t mean boys can’t look sharp too! We love polos and button downs, whether they’re in the form of a bodysuit (so they stay tucked in!) or regular top. This is one of our favorite short-sleeve button downs from the summer! In the chillier months we are also into sweaters and cardigans, layered over a polo or button down. Below are some of our picks for the fall, everything is on sale!
Outerwear, Layering or Swimwear
Depending on the season, we might need a few extra pieces. This is where vests, jackets, coats, rain gear, snow gear, and swimwear come into play. Vests are one thing I love to get Wyatt not necessarily for the extra warmth, but to give a little more variety to his outfits. We will be living in this one all fall! Baby jackets are just the cutest!
Accessories
Again, this is where girls have a little more fun with bows and jewels, but sometimes Wyatt will rock a hat (if he’s in the mood to keep it on) and he’s always sporting shoes. For the past year Wyatt had more shoes than I even want to count (because Tim will read this). My family would poke fun at me for always having Wyatt in shoes even when his feet never touched the ground, but it’s one of the only ways I can accessorize him! Now that Wyatt is cruising around and practicing walking, shoes are definitely important. This is where seasonal accessories come into play as well. Some accessories I consider when building Wyatt’s wardrobe are: shoes, sandals, boots, socks, hats (winter/summer), mittens, scarves, sunglasses, bandana drool bibs, ties or bow ties; extras for girls: bows, headbands, tights, jewelry (be careful about choking hazards).
Sleepwear
I like to make sure I have at least five sets of PJs in rotation. (We don’t have an in-unit washer-dryer in our apartment, so I need quite a few on hand.) Now that Wyatt is almost a year we love two-piece sets, they’re a little easier to wrangle him into especially for diaper changes (these Christmas ones are so adorable…if you didn’t already know I’m obsessed with Christmas.) When Wyatt was younger the one-piece PJs were awesome, and these fleece ones are so warm and snuggly for those chilly fall nights coming up! I also check my sleep suit situation- we like to use these suits or bags to keep Wyatt warm at night because he doesn’t sleep with a blanket for SIDS safety. Usually these fit for a few seasons or even years- but we have a few different weights for different temperatures.
That’s pretty much it! I love shopping for Wyatt, and Carter’s is one of my go-to places to begin building his wardrobe for a new size or season. Their clothes are cute and fresh and aren’t only high quality, but also affordable, especially during their September Baby Sale at JCP that’s going on through September 24th! Happy Shopping!
