Alright so big news y’all…WE’RE MOVING….AGAIN! (No I’m not pregnant, sorry to disappoint!) After a lot of thought, we decided it was time to head back to where we’re from: BOSTON!
Now that we’re officially into toddlerhood with Wyatt, we’ve come to the conclusion that we need more space, a yard, a car, a grocery store that doesn’t charge $5 for a dozen eggs, things like that. Instead of moving to the ‘burbs outside of NYC, we decided it makes more sense for us to be closer to home and our families (we’re both originally from Andover, MA.) We want Wyatt and any other kids we might have to grow up around family, and Tim travels a lot for his job so having support around would definitely be nice.
As much as we love the city, we both grew up in the suburbs and have always imagined that kind of life for our family. We’ve also noticed that we weren’t using the city for the things that we used to in our pre-baby life, like going to bars every weekend or eating out as much. I will definitely miss being able to throw Wyatt in the stroller and walk a block to the park, meet friends at the coffee shop 2 minutes away, go to the countless baby classes within a 10 block radius, and be able to get literally anything I need 24/7 in “the city that never sleeps,” but we’re so excited for all of the new conveniences that suburban life will have to offer.
Although we only spent one short year in NYC (almost 3 in San Fransisco before that, and Boston previously), I wouldn’t have done it any other way. I met so many amazing people, Wyatt made some great friends, we had so many experiences and did so many activities we wouldn’t have otherwise. I LOVED our year here and this move is genuinely bittersweet. Wyatt grew so much here, he sat up for the first time, took his first steps, celebrated his first birthday, and said his first words. New York is such an incredible city and I’m thankful I had the chance to live here…and after the 7 times roundtrip we did back and forth from NYC to Boston this year, I know how easy it will be to come back and visit anytime!
Hello, Boston
We’re moving THIS weekend…it really snuck up on us, but we feel ready for it (or at least as ready as you can be for any move.) We’re landing at my parents’ house and will be between both of our parent’s houses while we HOUSE HUNT! We decided it wasn’t worth it to house hunt from NYC and try to line up our apartment lease ending with a closing date when he had a place to land in the area. So we are moving back in with the ‘rents while we hunt, luckily they couldn’t be more excited to have us…or at least have Wyatt!
As per the city discussion earlier, we won’t be buying IN Boston, but in the suburbs. We are first time homebuyers so that will be an adventure in itself! Any advice or tips are always welcome. We’re super excited for this new chapter in our lives and be closer to family and friends from home. We’ve moved apartments once a year for the past 9 years (and the years before that in college.) So although our immediate move is a temporary one, we’re looking forward to buying a house and putting down some roots for a while.
Goodbye, NYC
As I mentioned, this move is bittersweet…New York you will always be a special place for us, you inspired us take risks and embark on new adventures; you made us stay up too late and to learn to sleep through the sounds of honking and sirens; you made it all too easy to eat too many bagels the mornings after drinking too many craft cocktails and eating too many slices of pizza; you encouraged me to spend too much with your wealth of shopping options and made us appreciate when a watermelon doesn’t cost $18; you swept us off our feet with the best meals we’ve ever had and dazzled us with how many places would deliver food to us when we were lazy; you forced us to figure out how to navigate bustling sidewalks with a stroller and how to make a concrete jungle our baby’s playground; you challenged us to constantly go outside of our comfort zone and made us feel at home in a city of 8 million others. Thanks for the memories NYC, you will forever have a piece of our hearts.
