I don’t know about you, but my skin tone and texture changes with the seasons. The winter brings some expected changes, but summer comes with its own arsenal of issues for my skin to deal with: increased sun exposure, drying chlorine pools, air conditioning, showering more frequently because I’m sweating all the time…the list goes on.
To combat skin dryness this summer, I teamed up with Olay to share 5 tips to keep skin glowing and hydrated!
Exfoliate
Exfoliation is important and is often something I forget to do. It removes dead skin cells so your skin can more effectively absorb moisture. I have combination skin so sometimes I’m battling dry skin and other times oily. I don’t use an exfoliating cleanser because it’s too harsh for my skin every day. Instead, I just add a little baking soda into my cleanser once a week or so. It has the perfect grain size to act as a gentle exfoliant, and some even claim that it helps clear up acne! There are plenty of at-home options for exfoliants out there.
Use the Right Cleanser
I feel like I’m constantly on the hunt for the best facial cleanser for my skin. I’ve battled acne for YEARS and somehow shockingly my skin became totally different (for the better) when I got pregnant. It mostly cleared up and has stayed that way since (we’ll see what the next round brings.) But my skin is still quite sensitive so I do battle other issues, and finding the right balance of hydration is always my goal.
This summer I discovered Olay Cleansing Infusion Facial Cleanser with Deep Sea Kelp. It’s an exclusive soy-based cleanser that has bio renewing hydrators that actually improves my skin’s condition by hydrating it, leaving me with a natural glow (without any help from the sun!) It’s a non-stripping cleanser so it’s gentle enough to use twice a day, and it leaves my skin feeling so refreshed and soft!
Not only does it smell great, but it really gets the job done! It draws out impurities and draws in hydration, and makes a creamy lather that is pretty killer at taking off makeup. My skin has stayed hydrated and glowing right through the change in seasons and I definitely have this cleanser to thank! You can find it in any drugstore, just look for the GOLD cleanser. Oh and it’s under $8, amazing!
Moisturize
I’ve used a lightweight moisturizer with SPF for years that’s also from Olay. Summer is a tricky time for moisturizer because half of the time I feel slimy already…like when I’m somehow sweaty right after I get out of the shower (hello, summer). But it’s still super important that I apply my moisturizer to rehydrate my skin. When my skin is dry I often find myself doing two layers of moisturizer before I put on makeup in the hopes that a little more soaks in.
Use Sunscreen
This is a no-brainer that I all too often disregard. I hate being pale in the summer, and unfortunately that means sometimes I intentionally don’t apply as often as I should. BUT this always has a huge effect on my skin, especially on my face. Not only am I definitely getting wrinkles faster, but it throws my skin way out of wack right away and it usually ends up super dried out. (Not to mention the more serious effects of sun damage.) I also look for moisturizers and makeup that have SPF in them, it gives me a little extra protection to start the day! But don’t forget to wash all of that sunscreen and makeup off with a gentle cleanser to keep your skin looking fresh!
Monitor What I’m Putting Into My Body
What I put into my body is just as important to think about when we’re talking hydration. Obviously summer heat causes sweating and dehydration so H2O is my bestie in the warm months. It honestly works wonders on my skin, when I’m dehydrated inevitably my skin looks more dull and dry, and when I’m drinking water like a fish, it glows. This includes keeping things in mind like my coffee and alcohol consumption because they are dehydrating as well.
Summer is a time to be worrying about if the sun is warm enough or your drink is cold enough, not to be stressing about dry skin. So hydrate your skin this summer with these 5 simple tips, and don’t forget that choosing the right facial cleanser will instantly leave your skin feeling soft and glowing!
