Wyatt loves a good smoothie and it’s an easy way for me to sneak even more veggies into his diet. He’s been drinking smoothies since before he was one…my husband makes one every morning and Wyatt always wants to try it. HOWEVER, his cup drinking skills still aren’t super, and if we do give him a cup we have to watch him like a hawk. In the past, we’ve tried putting smoothies into our various bottles and sippy cups, but they were either too thick, or the cleaning process would be too arduous. Enter the Infantino Squeeze Station. This awesome little appliance (under $20!) lets you fill food pouches (also known as “squeezies” in our house) with your own smoothies, homemade baby food, or store-bought yogurt and applesauce. It’s super easy to use, has the simplest clean up, and is cost effective (much cheaper than buying pre-filled pouches).
Wyatt sometimes eats puree pouches as snacks on-the-go or for part of a meal in a pinch, and this system easily allows us to make our own squeezies that can be stored in the fridge or freezer. We did baby led weaning with Wyatt so he didn’t eat a ton of purees when he was first learning how to eat, but for moms who like to make their own baby food, this way of storing and feeding is perfect!
The station is dishwasher safe and the 4 oz. pouches are disposable, come with kid-safe caps, are BPA free, and freezer safe. There’s also a space to write the food type and date on the pouch! You can buy a 50-pack here.
We love that Wyatt is self sufficient when he eats a squeeze pouch, we don’t have to help him with a cup for drinking a smoothie, or worry that he’s flinging yogurt around with his spoon. This makes things super easy when we have to do mealtime or a snack on-the-go! I also know a lot of moms that like to feed their kids certain yogurts that don’t come in pouches, with the Infantino Squeeze Station I can put any type or brand into a squeezie for my little one!
With his squeeze pouches, Wyatt doesn’t miss a beat. He can snack without making a mess while playing at his activity table. This awesome contraption from Infantino (below) grows with baby, it starts as an entertainer your little one can sit + spin in and then transforms into a toddler table he can play or snack on. It’s also super compact and easy to store unlike so many other entertainers.
Below are 3 of Wyatt’s favorite smoothie recipes. We usually just make our own smoothies up and often don’t measure, but just add a “handful” of this and a “splash” of that, whatever we have in the house. These are approximate ingredient amounts, but obviously you can get creative with a smoothie! Each recipe makes enough for mom or dad and baby, or to fill at least 4 squeeze pouches.
Kale-Berry Smoothie
(Wyatt and Mom’s Fav)
½ cup yogurt- any kind!
½ cup water or milk
1 cup kale (chopped, packed) you can do spinach too
½ cup frozen mixed berries
1 banana
1 tbsp. chia seeds
Peanut Butter-Banana “Shake”
(Wyatt and Dad’s Fav)
1 banana
2 tbsp. peanut butter (we do all-natural crunchy)
1 cup milk (any kind you prefer)
1 cup ice
(PRO-TIP: If your baby is currently switching form breast milk or formula to cow’s milk, and isn’t loving cow’s milk right away, try making this shake for them, or just blending banana in with whole milk, or doing ½ formula/breast milk and ½ cow’s milk. Increase the amount of cow’s milk over a few days until it’s 100% cow’s milk.)
Apple Cinnamon Oat Smoothie
½ cup oats
½ cup yogurt- any kind!
½ cup water or milk
1 cup unsweetened applesauce or 1 cored apple
1 pinch of cinnamon
Some of my favorite smoothie ingredients to create different combos with are: kale, spinach, avocado, berries, bananas, yogurt, milk, oats, peanut butter, almonds and chia seeds.
