IT’S A GIRL!!!
I was beyond shocked to find out that baby #2 was a girl! I was convinced it was another boy…even though this pregnancy has been totally different, and all the old wives’ tales said girl. (Check out my post on how baby #2 fell on all the old wives’ tales HERE.) Needless to say the gender reveal was a success, below are some details about the party.
With our first, Tim and I found out the gender during our anatomy scan at 20 weeks. We kept it a secret until our Jack & Jill baby shower at 28 weeks where we did a gender reveal for our friends & family at a clambake. I loved having the moment alone with Tim when we found out Wyatt was a boy, I cried and I don’t think I’ve ever seen Tim so happy (he might have shed a tear or two as well.) But this round I wanted to do a little something different and have a gender reveal party, also keeping that secret for 2 months was so hard last time!
Our anatomy scan was on December 27th at 18 weeks and I had the doctor write down (on two separate sealed notes) what the gender was. (Tim and I covered our eyes and looked away during that portion of the scan.) Our doctor also printed an ultrasound picture showing “the parts” that was sealed up as well.
We had our Gender Reveal Party planned for January 19th…almost a whole month later at 22 weeks. The first week of not peeking was the trickiest, but after I started planning the party I just got too excited to find out at the actual reveal than to spoil it for myself! (I hid the envelopes because Tim had expressed many times he wanted to find out and peek.)
How We Did the Reveal
I snail mailed the envelopes to two amazing companies that helped us with our reveal: Poof There It Is and Brimmer Boys. I had been emailing with both of them and because we had almost a month between the ultrasound and party I had enough time to mail them the notes from the doctors versus having someone peek for us and email them.
Poof is a company that specializes in gender reveals. They have so many fun options like confetti canons, sports smoke balls & reveal balloons. They sent us 12 incredible confetti cannons, this and this kind. We debated doing the powder cannons as well, but the party was in January in New England and we figured we wouldn’t want to be outside. The cannons worked really well and packed SO MUCH punch, there was pink confetti EVERYWHERE. It made for such fun pictures and an exciting reveal. Tim and I each popped one, and then had each of the four grandparents and my brother & Tim’s sister who both came in from out of town to celebrate with us pop one as well. We saved a few for some more stylized pictures. The indoor clean up was surprisingly easy, we just got all the confetti onto the ground and swept it up!
We had a lot of out of town family & friends who couldn’t make it, so we set up a Facebook Live event and streamed it, below are some videos of the reveal.
If you watch the videos, you can see I was in total shock, I froze and then cried into Tim & Wyatt’s arms. I could not be more excited to have a daughter, and having both a boy and a girl is an actual dream come true, I am one lucky mama! I love my relationship with my own mother and can’t wait to have that with my own little girl. Also, let’s be honest, shopping for a girl is so much more fun!
Brimmer Boys, who makes the cutest shirts, belts & bow ties, just started making these adorable gender reveal boxes. (They even sent Wyatt a coordinating bow tie…I die!) We got to open our box and just like that, baby GIRL got her first bow!!! These little reveal boxes have the cutest packaging and are a fun way to share the gender with family members!
Menu
I didn’t go too crazy with food prep for this party. Cooking is my least favorite part of party planning…but I wanted a lot of options for my 50+ guests so I looked to serve a mix of prepared and easy to make foods. Below is our menu.
I did spend way too much time making the cake. The actual base was easy, just boxed funfetti (my favorite), but the blocks were a little trickier and my first time working with fondant. They came out OK…if you didn’t look at the back of the blocks. I used this tutorial as a starting point and then kind of just did them by trail an error.
I love a food party favor & made chocolate chip cookies for my guests to take on the road with them. I simply put two in a glassine bag and printed my own labels on these label stickers and put them all together for a simple little to-go treat!
Decor
I also went pretty simple with our decor. This party also served as a housewarming since we moved in in September, we decided to pair the two events together after the holidays. I wanted our home to look pretty much as it usually does for guests to poke around in.
Because this was a gender reveal I kept my decor gender neutral and went with whites and greens. I used mostly florals to decorate, and also some baby items like neutral colored stuffed animals, books & blocks.
I made this “Old Wives’ Tales” board on Wyatt’s playroom linen pin board board (find the tutorial HERE!) and then had guests pick a “It’s a BOY” or “It’s a GIRL” sticker to wear during the party to show what they thought the gender would be. I made the stickers and printed them out on these labels.
When I throw a party I usually like to try one new Pinterest-worthy DIY decor project. For this party I attempted floral hoops. It was actually pretty easy, be on the lookout for a blog post tutorial on how I did them!
Thoughts
We were surrounded but 50+ family and friends who got to share in this special moment with us, and I couldn’t have asked for anything more. We’re so excited to be adding a little girl to our family in the spring, and to start this next chapter!
Thank you to Poof There It Is and Brimmer Boys for gifting us the items to make our reveal possible, you made the most memorable event!
